HISTORY
Radiology Associates is a group practice of Board Certified
Radiologists, specializing only in radiology and its application in
virtually all areas of xray and imaging science, including
interventional (surgical) radiology, mammography, breast tumor
biopsy, and magnetic resonance imaging.
Modalities include traditional xray,
ultrasound, nuclear medicine, fluoroscopy, computer-aided tomography
(CT scanning) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and magnetic
resonance angiography (MRA).
The patients who are served by our
radiologists come primarily from referring physicians and through
hospital emergency rooms and outpatient hospital settings. In a few
cases, such as with screening mammography and minor emergency xrays,
the patient may initiate contact directly with one of our private
offices.
In the beginning of the practice of
radiology, as with numerous other specialties, services were
provided in hospital settings, for emergency room patients, for
inpatients, and for outpatients who would utilize the hospitalŐs
radiology department just for its services.
Over the past fifty years, many services,
which were initially provided only in hospital settings, have moved
into physician offices and specialty centers, such as those of
Radiology Associates.
CHRONOLOGY
Radiology Associates traces its roots back to the initial practice
of Dr. Leslie Garrett, M.D. who came to Corpus Christi in 1937. Dr.
Garrett was the first Board Certified Radiologist in South Texas. He
was joined by Dr. James Riley in 1941. After a brief period in which
both physicians served in World War II, the relationship continued
with the admission of Dr. Winston Riley to the group in 1954. The
group continued as Garrett, Riley and Riley until 1961 when Dr.
James Albright joined the firm. The group expanded in 1965 with the
two new members of Drs. Curtis Reemsnyder and Dr. Julius Chepey.
From then on additional members have joined the firm throughout the
years until the present.
